Darnell smiled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo werewolf healing does not fix personality?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo,\u201d Mark said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gabriel leaned back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The room laughed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even Grant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even Patel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thane shook his head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then he looked at the patrol officers again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI mean what I said earlier. Being a werewolf does not make us better police.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Grant looked at him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt gives us abilities. It changes what our bodies can survive. But the badge is what tells us what we owe people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mark\u2019s ears tipped forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gabriel was quiet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thane looked at the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just patrol cars moving through familiar streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dispatchers answering phones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nurses working late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parents driving home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
People locking doors behind them and trusting that someone would come if they needed help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At 06:15, Night Shift walked out into the beginning of morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Behind them, the station waited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ahead of them, the city did too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
