Silas picked up a stack of hundreds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark chose the battleship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thane chose the dog because Gabriel dared him not to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Silas chose the thimble after staring at it for a while.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gabriel looked at the piece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cUnexpected.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Silas shrugged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt fits in small places.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No one made the obvious joke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That was progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For a while, Silas was cautious with the bank, over-counting every transaction, announcing totals carefully, keeping the money squared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then Gabriel landed on Mark\u2019s railroad for the third time and accused the dice of corruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Silas began to enjoy himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mark bought strategically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Of course he did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He acquired properties with quiet brutality, built houses at exactly the right moment, and refused trades that looked harmless until he explained why they were traps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gabriel tried charm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It worked on no one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thane made two generous trades early because he liked seeing Silas grin when he completed a color set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mark punished him for it later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou traded him leverage,\u201d Mark said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe was happy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNow he is poor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thane looked at his remaining cash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Silas, as banker, handed Thane change with increasing confidence and absolutely no mercy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The burglar joke returned once, but only once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When Gabriel asked whether the bank offered unsecured loans, Silas looked at him and said, \u201cNot to repeat offenders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thane barked a laugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Silas tried to organize a coalition against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thane joined immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gabriel joined and then betrayed the coalition within four turns for a trade involving Boardwalk that helped no one except his self-image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mark won anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the end, Gabriel was bankrupt, Thane was functionally ruined, Silas was indignant, and Mark sat behind a wall of pastel currency with the calm of an empire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
