One was dark gray with black markings along his muzzle, shoulders, and forearms, a pattern that made him look carved from storm clouds and charcoal. Two wolves in Wyoming. Construction sites. High school hallways. Jobs where strength had been useful but pride had stayed carefully folded. Foremen watching Roseway footage and understanding, maybe for the first time, that a werewolf going through a door could be comfort instead of nightmare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They had not set out to pave a road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They had mostly been trying to survive the one under their own paws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But somewhere north and west, two wolves had seen the tracks and followed them south.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not to stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just to say the road was real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thane put one arm around Silas\u2019s shoulders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gabriel leaned closer on the other side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mark stayed where he was, steady and quiet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The den behind them smelled like coffee, bacon, wood, and guests who had slept safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Outside, the trees closed gently over the driveway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Inside, the cabin waited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Home had been big enough again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And somewhere on the highway, Dane and Cal drove north in a black 4Runner, carrying leftovers, photos, new numbers in their phones, and one less reason to hide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
