Last Thursday Gabriel accused him of stealing bacon before he entered the room.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gabriel pointed with a spoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAnd I was correct.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Silas pulled out a chair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe bacon was in the freezer peas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHidden bacon is not public bacon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt was poorly hidden.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat is victim blaming.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thane\u2019s phone chimed before Mark could become involved in the legal theory of frozen meat possession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The notification showed Dane Holliker\u2019s name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thane paused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gabriel noticed immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWyoming?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thane opened the email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Silas leaned forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mark set his tablet down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thane read it silently first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then smiled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gabriel\u2019s ears lifted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOh, that is a dangerous smile.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thane cleared his throat and read aloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHey Thane,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We made it back to Laramie safe. Cal says I am required to begin with that because otherwise you will assume I drove into Colorado by accident.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gabriel laughed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Silas smiled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thane continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThank you again for everything. The dinner, the guest room, breakfast, the leftovers, all of it. I know we said it in person, but I do not think we said it enough. You all made a road trip we were nervous about into one of the best things either of us has done in years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cal says to tell Mark the cabin framing made him jealous, which is apparently high praise. He also says Gabriel\u2019s coffee was dangerous and should be regulated. I say breakfast should be a public utility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mostly, thank you for letting us see the den side of things. Seeing you at the station was amazing. Dinner was amazing. But the cabin mattered in a different way. It helped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are back at work tomorrow. Same roofs, same beams, same Wyoming wind, but things feel different. Straighter, like I said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you ever make it north, you have friends here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">P.S. Cal says that last sentence was too dramatic. We should. They drove all the way down here to meet us. We should go see them in their world. Wyoming wolves. Construction sites. Mountains. Wind. Probably enormous steaks served by people who understand altitude.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mark said, \u201cAltitude does not inherently improve steak.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gabriel looked at him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou don\u2019t know that emotionally.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Silas leaned back in his chair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou want to road-trip to Wyoming?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gabriel pointed at him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou say that like it doesn\u2019t sound excellent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Silas glanced at Thane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thane was already thinking about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not as impulse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dane and Cal had come south with gratitude folded so tightly it had taken a hug to crack it open. They had seen the station. The restaurant. The den. You two were easy to host.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Would you want visitors next week? We were talking about coming up, seeing Wyoming, meeting you on your ground for a few days. No pressure. Calm officially failed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thane replied:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Probably Sunday afternoon arrival. We could stay a few days if that is okay. We will get time off and confirm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The answer came back almost instantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes. Yes. Stay. Absolutely. We will make room. I am not yelling. Cal says I am typing like yelling. I would be with Thane, Gabriel, and Mark the whole time. We would drive up Sunday, probably arrive afternoon. Stay a few days. I can send the address once Dane gives it to us. GPS stays active. Phone on. I will answer check-ins. No alcohol. No weapons.
