That was the part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dane and Cal went to their rooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gabriel turned off the kitchen lights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mark\u2019s door upstairs was already closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Silas paused in the hall beside Thane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou improved it a little.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Silas smiled faintly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thane huffed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Silas\u2019s smile widened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then he went to bed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thane stayed in the great room a moment longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The day replayed itself quietly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Breakfast recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A foreman realizing awe had been available in his own job trailer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Clawed paws seen as strength instead of problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Selfies that pulled Dane and Cal back into the frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A museum full of bones, old earth, hidden color.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
News cameras turning a parking lot into a choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is Dane. This is Cal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Your own incredible wolves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the steakhouse, people had said their names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not as warning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As greeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That was not everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It did not erase years of being tolerated instead of known.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It did not guarantee tomorrow would be easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But it was a crack in the old shape of the place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Enough light could enter through a crack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thane turned off the last lamp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Wyoming den settled into darkness, full of sleeping wolves, cooling coffee, leftover cake, buzzing phones, and a town that had been told to look again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For one day, at least, it had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
