The coffee was just starting to work<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gabriel\u2019s tail had stopped twitching. Maya was upright without sunglasses. Cassie was managing real, actual sentences. Jonah even managed to snort-laugh at something Diesel said about \u201cfirefighter groupies in ’88.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thane had one clawed hand wrapped around a steaming mug of black coffee and the other gently massaging his temple. He was almost<\/em> calm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So of course, that\u2019s when the chaos arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It started as a low rumble outside\u2014like a dozen subwoofers stacked in the back of a monster truck. Everyone glanced toward the windows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outside the diner, a full caravan of fan vehicles<\/strong> was suddenly rolling into the parking lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pickup trucks, vans, a Prius with FERAL 4 LIFE painted on the hood in glitter paint. One fan had strapped a mannequin with werewolf ears<\/em> to their roof.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emily, peeking out from behind the blinds, slowly said, \u201cDid someone post where we were?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jonah checked his phone. \u201c…Yep. It\u2019s already viral. Feral Eclipse spotted post-granny hangover at diner, looking \u2018soft and huggable.\u2019<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thane\u2019s eye twitched. \u201cI am not huggable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark casually sipped his coffee. \u201cYou are when you look like roadkill.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within seconds, the parking lot was full.<\/strong>
Fans were pouring out of vehicles. People were sprinting across the street. One guy was holding a guitar above his head like a tribute offering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then someone screamed, \u201cI BROUGHT COOKIES FOR THE WOLVES!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s when panic actually<\/em> hit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tina, the poor waitress, looked from the mob outside to the band. \u201cDo\u2026 do I call the cops?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diesel stood up slowly, like a man about to fight gravity itself. \u201cNah. I\u2019ll handle this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cassie blinked. \u201cAre you about to say something wise and cowboy-ish?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He walked to the door. \u201cNo. I\u2019m gonna yell at them and see what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He cracked it open. \u201cFOLKS! YOU NEED TO CHILL!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crowd\u2026 did not chill.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, someone shouted, \u201cIS GRANNY WITH YOU!?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gabriel\u2019s eyes widened. \u201cThey want her,<\/em> not us!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s when someone launched a werewolf plushie<\/em> through the open door and it hit Jonah in the face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stared at it. Then slowly, in one movement, just laid down on the floor next to the booth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m done. Tell the fans I died nobly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thane stood up with a groan, slammed the rest of his coffee, and growled, \u201cPack the food. We\u2019re bailing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBus is two blocks away,\u201d Diesel muttered. \u201cWe can make a run for it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFans\u2019ll see us,\u201d Cassie said, glancing out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have an idea,\u201d Gabriel said. \u201cIt\u2019s bad. But it\u2019s so us.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Ten minutes later:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The front doors of the diner burst open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The entire band and crew charged out in a line, led by Gabriel, who was holding a takeout box like it contained sacred treasure.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark casually followed behind, holding Emily\u2019s iced tea and muttering, \u201cTold them not to run. Now we\u2019re a parade.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crowd SHRIEKED. Phones came up. Chants of \u201cFeral! Feral! Feral!\u201d broke out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And somehow<\/em>\u2014in the chaos\u2014a handful of fans actually joined the chase<\/strong>, sprinting behind the band like they were escaping paparazzi in a 90s music video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One kid screamed, \u201cGO GO GO!\u201d while filming.
Another dove into a bush and shouted, \u201cI REGRET NOTHING!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diesel threw the bus door open just in time. One by one, the crew hurled themselves aboard, gasping, laughing, growling, sweating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the doors slammed shut, Thane shouted toward the back, \u201cDRIVE! FLOOR IT!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The engine roared to life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last thing they saw through the back window?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A fan holding up a sign made from diner napkins taped together that said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
