This is a prank.\u201d<br>\u201cI saw the big brown one growl at a funnel cake.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>And then the unmistakable shadow of the <em>tour bus<\/em> crept around the corner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The crowd gasped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>And then they saw the wolves.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane stepped out first \u2014 broad, massive, fur slightly bristled, ears angled back just enough to make kids stare and grown men reconsider their decisions. Behind him came Gabriel, tail twitching, still wearing his sunglasses from the diner hangover recovery. Maya, Rico, Jonah, and Cassie followed, all in full <em>we-survived-Granny<\/em> mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even Mark was there, sipping his fifth bottle of water with the energy of a man who had seen too much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phones <em>exploded.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A local reporter, mid-broadcast for the town\u2019s tiny public access station, did a double-take so hard she nearly dropped her mic. She adjusted her blazer, shoved past two dancing teens in tail belts, and darted up to the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUm \u2014 <em>hi<\/em>! Crystal Denton, KLUZ Channel 4 \u2014 wait, I mean, Channel <em>Two<\/em> \u2014 you\u2019re\u2026 are you really <em>Feral Eclipse?<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel grinned. \u201cNope. We\u2019re just <em>very convincing furries.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane didn\u2019t even crack a smile. His glare could\u2019ve curdled fresh milk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel leaned down like he was going to adjust his in-ear pack. Instead, he tilted his head slightly and Thane whispered:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cSuggest a show. Say it\u2019s your idea. I want this town to <em>feel seen.<\/em> But it didn\u2019t come from me. You get me, <em>my wolf?<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel\u2019s ears perked ever so slightly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then he straightened, looked at the camera, and said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cYou know what? This town went all out. Inflatable werewolf heads. Bootleg merch. Half the booths smell like burnt sugar and ambition. I say\u2026 we give them a show.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Gasps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Someone dropped a caramel apple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane tilted his head to the side, pretending to think about it \u2014 just enough that Cassie immediately <em>squinted at him.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maya leaned over to Rico. \u201cThat was totally Thane\u2019s idea, right?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rico nodded. \u201cOh yeah. He\u2019s just letting Gabriel carry the credit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jonah, deadpan: \u201cAlpha move.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The reporter fumbled her mic. \u201cW-wait \u2014 do you mean\u2026 a real show? Here?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel winked. \u201cLow-key. No lights. No pyro. Just some good music and a whole lotta sound.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The crowd cheered like it was the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kids were screaming. Someone tried to scale the inflatable Gabriel and was promptly tackled by a guy in a half-melted werewolf costume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emily, standing quietly off to the side, smiled behind her camera as she recorded the whole thing. <em>Of course<\/em> it would go viral in under ten minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Later that afternoon:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The town square became a makeshift venue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No trusses. No effects. Just a couple of wedges, some borrowed power from the city hall outlet, and Thane\u2019s ever-faithful console set up on a folding table under a beach umbrella.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The band took the stage \u2014 barefoot, rumpled, still a little hungover \u2014 but <strong>radiating raw presence.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cassie took the mic and simply said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis one\u2019s for the weirdos with Sharpies, fake fangs, and too much heart.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>And then they played.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it wasn\u2019t polished. It wasn\u2019t flawless. But it was <em>real.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel\u2019s voice cracked on one chorus. Jonah flubbed a fill and laughed halfway through it. Maya played the wrong chord and muttered, \u201cOops\u201d into her mic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it didn\u2019t matter. Because the town <em>loved them<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People danced in the street. Kids sat cross-legged near the front. One elderly couple slow-danced in front of the port-a-potties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And somewhere backstage, Crystal Denton stood slack-jawed, blinking into her camera like she was dreaming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the last song faded out, Thane rose from his board just enough to catch Gabriel\u2019s eye\u2014and gave the tiniest nod.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel just grinned wide and mouthed, <em>\u201cThey bought it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cassie raised her arms.
