{"id":1418,"date":"2024-05-01T01:01:39","date_gmt":"2024-05-01T06:01:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/threewerewolves.com\/?p=1418"},"modified":"2024-02-10T10:22:48","modified_gmt":"2024-02-10T16:22:48","slug":"fangs-fog-and-formalwear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/threewerewolves.com\/tourblog\/fangs-fog-and-formalwear\/","title":{"rendered":"Fangs, Fog, and Formalwear"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The bus creaked to a stop on the edge of a winding gravel drive, headlights casting long shadows across a wide clearing\u2026 and there it stood:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Blackthorne Hall.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A looming, weathered castle with gargoyle-lined battlements, a working drawbridge, flickering torch sconces, and ominous string music echoing from somewhere deep within.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diesel stared through the windshield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2026Nope,\u201d he muttered. \u201cThis is how cult documentaries start.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emily was practically vibrating with excitement. \u201cIt\u2019s <em>perfect!<\/em> They said we\u2019re supposed to make a \u2018theatrical entrance\u2019 when we arrive.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane, arms crossed at the front of the bus, growled. \u201cWe <em>are<\/em> the theatrical entrance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the pack and crew disembarked, the crowd outside the castle <em>erupted<\/em>\u2014a swirling sea of corsets, capes, silver jewelry, and <em>extremely questionable contact lenses.<\/em> Gothic fans screamed with delight, their cheers echoing eerily under the towering spires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One man was dressed as a literal gargoyle. Another had bat wings so wide they took out two torches when he turned. A trio of women in matching lace veils bowed dramatically when Mark passed by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cassie looked around. \u201cDid we just roll into a Tim Burton fever dream?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jonah elbowed Gabriel. \u201cThat guy\u2019s dressed like <em>you,<\/em> man!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel turned\u2014and came face to face with a fan in a <em>full-scale fursuit recreation<\/em> of Gabriel\u2019s own wolf form\u2026 complete with LED-lit eyes, a bass guitar prop, and a tail that actually wagged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fan dropped to their knees and whispered:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI AM YOU. YOU ARE ME. THE LOOP IS COMPLETE.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel blinked. \u201cI have <em>so many<\/em> emotions right now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Inside the Hall:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blackthorne\u2019s interior was pure <em>gothic opulence<\/em>\u2014vaulted ceilings, velvet drapes, skull-themed chandeliers, and a suspicious number of ravens perched in places ravens should not be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The band followed a candle-bearing event coordinator named <strong>Darcy<\/strong> down a long corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Darcy spoke in a slow, theatrical lilt. \u201cThe masquerade ball is in full swing, your stage is set beneath the ancient stained glass, and we\u2019ve prepared\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane cut her off. \u201cWho\u2019s the guy in the skull mask screaming at the candelabra?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Darcy sighed. \u201cThat would be <em>Lord Alaric,<\/em> head of the Blackthorne Historical Society. He\u2019s convinced your presence desecrates the sanctity of the Blood Ballroom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cassie whispered, \u201c&#8230;Blood Ballroom?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Darcy didn\u2019t blink. \u201cYes. He also believes one of you is a reincarnated sorcerer from 1742. Try not to provoke him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just then, <em>Lord Alaric<\/em> spun around, long cloak billowing. \u201cTHEY WALK AMONG US AGAIN!\u201d he shouted, pointing directly at Mark. \u201cLOOK INTO HIS EYES AND SEE THE VOID!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark blinked once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alaric promptly fainted into a pile of pewter goblets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jonah: \u201cWell, <em>that<\/em> was dramatic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Backstage Before the Set:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel was adjusting his in-ear monitors when someone tapped him on the shoulder. He turned\u2014only to be pulled into a tearful hug by a fan in mourning garb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI just want you to know,\u201d she sobbed, mascara running down her cheeks like haunted rivers, \u201cI buried my rat to your <em>Rain Moon Elegy<\/em> song. It was so beautiful. Her name was Biscuit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel blinked. \u201c&#8230;I am both honored and emotionally unprepared.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Across the stage, Thane discovered someone had set up <em>a literal coffin<\/em> for him to rest in between songs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He stared at it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He stared at Emily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emily just whispered, \u201cLean in, my wolf. Lean <em>all<\/em> the way in.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said it playfully. Lightly. Like a joke between friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the words hit the air like a gunshot in a cathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane\u2019s entire body went still.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The room, the chaos, the distant violin warmups, all seemed to fall away. His head turned slowly toward her, ice-blue eyes hard as granite. His ears pinned back. His lip curled just slightly\u2014not in rage, but warning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lethal silence.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She froze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then came the growl \u2014 quiet, deep, and unmistakably final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t ever call me that again.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>He turned and walked off, claws clicking sharply on the old stone floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emily stood there, stunned, heart thudding against her ribs, the weight of her misstep crashing down like a curtain of shame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel had been onstage nearby, adjusting his rig, but he\u2019d <em>heard it.<\/em> His head snapped toward the sound the second the growl came. He moved fast, slipping past the stagehands and following Thane, tail stiff with unease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emily stood there alone in front of the coffin, breath caught in her throat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A few minutes later\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She found them near the side of the castle, beneath a small ivy-draped stone arch where the torchlight didn\u2019t quite reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel was crouched next to Thane, checking a pedalboard setup while the alpha kept his arms crossed, staring off into the dark trees with his jaw clenched tight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emily swallowed hard. Then stepped forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThane\u2026 I\u2019m so sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Her voice was barely above a whisper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t think. I wasn\u2019t trying to \u2014 I didn\u2019t <em>mean<\/em> anything by it, I swear. I was just\u2026 caught up in the moment, and I crossed a line. I won\u2019t ever do it again. I promise.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel looked up at her slowly. His icy blue gaze carried more weight than his usual chaos. His face was calm, but not soft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s not <em>your<\/em> wolf,\u201d he said, simply.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>A pause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, like wind through a candle, the fire in his eyes died down, and his voice warmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cBut it\u2019s okay. You owned it. Just&#8230; be careful what you borrow. Some names aren\u2019t meant to be shared.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Emily nodded quickly. \u201cI will. Thank you. I\u2019m sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane didn\u2019t say anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He didn\u2019t need to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The silence was acceptance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not forgiveness.<br>Not yet.<br>But the kind of silence that let things settle instead of burn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>From the ballroom, the low hum of strings and stomping boots signaled the show was about to begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel stood and gave Emily a faint smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cHey\u2026 if it makes you feel better? The last person who tried that got headbutted off a loading ramp.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Emily blinked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He winked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She managed a weak laugh\u2014and retreated to the crew bench, where Mark gave her a side-eye and handed her a can of soda without saying a word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Backstage, Thane slung his coil of cables over one shoulder and met Gabriel at the wings.
