{"id":1624,"date":"2024-07-14T01:04:50","date_gmt":"2024-07-14T06:04:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/threewerewolves.com\/?p=1624"},"modified":"2024-02-10T10:22:34","modified_gmt":"2024-02-10T16:22:34","slug":"cupcakes-news-crews-and-the-official-feral-eclipse-appreciation-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/threewerewolves.com\/tourblog\/cupcakes-news-crews-and-the-official-feral-eclipse-appreciation-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Cupcakes, News Crews, and the Official Feral Eclipse Appreciation Day"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It started with a knock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not the normal kind\u2014more like an awkward, hesitant tap-tap from someone who wasn\u2019t sure if they were disturbing actual rock royalty or about to get eaten by a werewolf in pajama pants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane opened the door wearing jeans and a tour tee that said <strong>\u201cI Mic\u2019d Your Mom.\u201d<\/strong> Gabriel padded up behind him barepaw, yawning and cradling a half-drunk iced coffee like it was holy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the porch stood a very polite, very nervous man in khakis and an Edmond city logo windbreaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHi,\u201d the man said, glancing down at his clipboard. \u201cI\u2019m with the \u2014 uh \u2014  City Development and Outreach Office, and I just wanted to\u2026 check in.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane blinked. \u201cWe\u2019re not building a second stage.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNo, no! I mean \u2014 well \u2014 there <em>have<\/em> been noise complaints, but also a lot of very positive calls from local businesses.\u201d He paused. \u201cSomeone from the bagel place two blocks over said their sales tripled this morning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel grinned. \u201cYou\u2019re welcome.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo we just wanted to stop by and say&#8230; if there\u2019s anything the city can do to support local art and performance&#8230; uh&#8230;\u201d He looked around. \u201c&#8230;whatever <em>this<\/em> is&#8230; let us know?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane looked at him for a long second, then said, \u201cWe need a permit to fix our fence. It collapsed under the weight of fans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOh. Uh. I can expedite that?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAwesome.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlso, my teenage son says if I don\u2019t come back with a selfie, he\u2019s moving out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel leaned in instantly. \u201cSay cheese.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By noon, the porch had seen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One city councilwoman<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Channel 5 news anchor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Two librarians (one crying, one holding a Feral Eclipse scrapbook)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A bakery owner offering free cookies for life<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A wildlife officer asking if they\u2019d seen a raccoon in a hoodie (they had not answered)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Out back, Rico tuned an acoustic guitar while lounging in a hammock someone had strung between the grill and the porch post. Jonah and Maya made a second pot of coffee strong enough to qualify as war crimes. Cassie helped Mark patch the busted fence with zip ties and a stage backdrop they weren\u2019t using, effectively turning the backyard into a high-end fortress of music nerdery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emily emerged from the hallway in fresh clothes and sunglasses, declaring, \u201cChannel 9 wants an interview.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel choked on his iced coffee. \u201cOh gods, are they sending <em>Debbie DeWitt<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane groaned. \u201cThe one who did that viral story about us \u2018destroying society\u2019s moral fabric with werewolf bass riffs\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYEP. Same one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cassie clapped her hands together. \u201cOh this is going to be fun.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sure enough, thirty minutes later a white Channel 9 SUV rolled up. Debbie DeWitt stepped out in high heels and a perfectly ironed news blazer, armed with a mic, a camera crew, and a smile that could cut glass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She looked at the house. The lawn. The fence. The still-lingering fans draped on the curb with hand-painted signs. And then back at Thane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo,\u201d she said brightly, \u201chow does it feel to be the reason Edmond has declared a <em>Citywide Feral Eclipse Appreciation Day<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane blinked. \u201cThey what?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emily held up her phone. \u201cYeah, it\u2019s on their Facebook page. Official proclamation and everything. There\u2019s gonna be cupcakes at city hall.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel leaned into frame. \u201cDo we get cupcakes?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYes,\u201d Debbie said, smiling like a knife, \u201cbut only if you behave during the interview.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel grinned wider. \u201cNo promises.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The news interview was chaos, of course. Gabriel tried to climb on Thane\u2019s shoulders mid-sentence. Mark answered every lighting question with \u201cTrade secret.\u201d Jonah ate a cookie mid-interview. Rico played soft accompaniment on guitar like it was a talk show. Maya and Cassie did an impromptu duet of the <em>Feral Eclipse Fan Chant<\/em> for the mic, and somehow Debbie DeWitt didn\u2019t spontaneously combust on-air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The internet <em>loved<\/em> it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By dinner, someone had dropped off a life-sized cardboard cutout of Thane with glowing LED claws and a speech bubble that read, <em>\u201cWelcome to the Den.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane stared at it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel slapped sunglasses on the cutout. \u201cHe looks <em>great.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re putting this in the garage,\u201d Thane said flatly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOh absolutely.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It started with a knock.
