Gabriel was still trembling, pressed so close to Thane it was like they\u2019d been fused at the ribs. His tail hung low, ears pinned back, claws twitching with lingering nerves. Even his fur seemed puffed out with adrenaline, and his usually cocky swagger was nowhere to be seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thane didn\u2019t say a word as they walked, just kept one arm around his packmate\u2019s back and the other gripping Gabriel\u2019s duffel. Every time someone looked at them funny in the terminal, he shot them a glare so fierce even the most curious fans backed off immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Outside, the humid Oklahoma air hit like a blanket soaked in nostalgia and jet lag. It was early evening, the sun casting long shadows over the pickup zone \u2014 and there, like a vision from a long-forgotten road trip dream, stood their old friend Diesel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He leaned against the side of the tour bus, arms crossed, toothpick in his mouth and aviators reflecting the chaos of baggage carts and honking taxis. And then he whistled<\/em> \u2014 a sound so loud, so sharp<\/em>, it cut through the airport noise like a blade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The whole pack snapped their heads up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThere\u2019s my favorite wolves!\u201d Diesel called, his grin wide enough to rival the bus itself. \u201cY\u2019all look like you went to Europe, played a million shows, and nearly got arrested.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe did<\/em>,\u201d Jonah said flatly, dragging his suitcase behind him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Everyone filed into the waiting bus, one by one offering Diesel the kind of hug you give family. Even Mark, grumbling something about \u201ctoo many damn hours in the air,\u201d clapped the man\u2019s back with rare affection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Gabriel lingered at the bottom step, eyes still a little glassy. Diesel looked him over, then nodded solemnly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYou good, pup?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Gabriel gave a tiny nod. \u201cAlmost went to jail.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYeah, well.\u201d Diesel tilted his head. \u201cIf you hadn\u2019t, I\u2019d be disappointed. C\u2019mon. Bus is cold. Snacks are stocked. And I\u2019m parked illegally, so let\u2019s move it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Gabriel finally cracked a shaky grin and bounded up into the doorway, still not letting go of Thane\u2019s paw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The doors hissed shut. The engine rumbled.
