The first three rows were a melting pot of mania\u2014sweaty, snarling, vibrating with anticipation. Lights still low. House music still playing. No one cared. They were already acting like the show had started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One girl in the front center\u2014purple hair, face paint, a custom-made shirt that read \u201cMate Me, Gabriel\u201d<\/em>\u2014was trying to start a synchronized howl. Loud. Sharp. Repeated. And increasingly off-key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A guy to her left\u2014shirtless, shredded jeans, enough body glitter to qualify as a safety hazard\u2014was aggressively moshing with a folding chair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There was no music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n No beat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Just him. Security had already tried to stop him once, but he\u2019d hissed and told them he was \u201cchanneling the spirit of the lunar surge.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Stage left, a small group had started a coordinated claw-hand chant. \u201cFE-RAL E-CLIPSE! SLASH! SLASH!<\/em>\u201d with actual air slashing motions. One of them was wearing homemade foam claws the size of oven mitts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Two fans in the second row were cosplaying as Thane and Mark<\/em>, complete with homemade furry feet and LED collars. Problem was\u2014they\u2019d somehow gotten way<\/em> too into character and had begun mock-growling at people who got too close to the barricade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Security referred to them as \u201cDiscount Snarl Bros.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Gabriel peeked out from backstage and immediately ducked back, wide-eyed. Maya passed by holding her guitar, glanced at the monitor, and laughed. \u201cYou guys sure know how to attract the feral part of the demographic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Back at FOH, Mark slowly reached over, grabbed the master volume fader, and muttered, Thane leaned in next to him, gaze fixed on the front row through the haze. Then\u2014without warning\u2014one of the fans up front ripped off his shirt to reveal a freshly inked tattoo across his chest: “Pack Loyalty \u2014 Fangs Out Forever\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Another immediately fainted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Security called for medics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jonah, tuning backstage, raised an eyebrow. Mark sighed. Gabriel, sipping a new cup of coffee: Thane cracked his knuckles and stared at the swirling chaos near the barricade. \u201cThey\u2019re pre-gaming insanity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
