The air smells like&#8230; is that burnt cinnamon?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel stood in front of the hotel kitchenette\u2019s stovetop like it was a stage rig, shirtless, tail swishing behind him in full concentration. Clawed hands held a spatula like it was his bass. Something sizzled angrily in the pan. Something that had once been French toast. Maybe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane sat up, blinking hard. \u201cWhat in the seven hells are you doing?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel turned, wide-eyed and <em>way<\/em> too cheerful for the morning after a show. \u201cBrunch, obviously.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark grunted without opening his eyes. \u201cSomething\u2019s on fire.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s <em>caramelizing,<\/em>\u201d Gabriel shot back proudly. \u201cI saw it on TikTok. You just gotta blast the heat and flip it with confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ve been watching cooking TikToks again?\u201d Thane narrowed his eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUh huh. Gordon Ramsay. But like\u2026 werewolf style.\u201d Gabriel beamed, gesturing at the pan where something vaguely food-shaped had fused with the non-stick surface. \u201cI added Red Hots, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and uh&#8230; that little bottle of vodka from the mini fridge.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark opened one eye. \u201cThat\u2019s not French toast. That\u2019s arson on bread.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel flipped the entire pan&#8217;s contents onto a plate with dramatic flair. The result thudded. Hard. Like drywall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI call it <em>Raging Moon Toast!<\/em>\u201d he announced triumphantly, handing the plate to Thane with a toothy grin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane stared at it. Then at Gabriel. Then back at the plate. \u201cThis looks like something I\u2019d scrape off a subwoofer grill.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m touched,\u201d Gabriel said, completely unbothered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark groaned. \u201cI\u2019m not eating that. I have a death wish, but not <em>that<\/em> kind.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane braced himself, tore off a chunk, and popped it in his mouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A pause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He blinked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then his ears went flat. \u201cGabriel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYeah, Thane?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDid you just combine sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, <em>vodka<\/em>, and <em>spicy candies<\/em> and <em>try to fry it in a hotel pan with no butter<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel looked very pleased with himself. \u201cYou can <em>taste<\/em> the ambition, right?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane slowly stood up, staring at the burnt-red slab in his hand. \u201cI can <em>hear<\/em> my arteries crying.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark muttered, \u201cI&#8217;m putting in an order for real breakfast.
