Everything about <strong>The Midnight Mic with Grayson Thorne<\/strong> felt sanitized \u2014 from the pastel stage to the overly waxed desk, to the thin smile of the host himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grayson was a known cynic. His brand was sarcasm, snark, and smug superiority, and he <em>hated<\/em> anything that disrupted his vision of \u201cserious music culture.\u201d Feral Eclipse? Instant bullseye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re on in two,\u201d a PA said nervously, glancing sideways at Gabriel, who was currently spinning in a guest chair like a feral barstool tornado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane sat still and composed, claws folded in his lap, looking like he\u2019d rather be anywhere else but too dignified to show it. Cassie was checking her lipstick. Rico and Maya leaned back in their chairs, swapping quiet jokes. Jonah adjusted his collar like he was about to attend a trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark sat furthest from the host\u2019s desk, arms crossed, sunglasses on, radiating quiet nuclear potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t maul the host,\u201d Thane said under his breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNo promises,\u201d Gabriel grinned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The band theme played. The crowd cheered. Lights went up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grayson Thorne shuffled his notecards and smirked at the camera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur next guests are\u2026 let\u2019s see\u2026\u201d He fake squinted. \u201cFeral Eclipse. The werewolf-themed band from Oklahoma who recently caught fire \u2014 literally \u2014 at Rocklahoma, set the internet ablaze, and somehow convinced a chunk of the world that claws and eyeliner are music\u2019s next great hope.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scattered laughs. Some boos. Mostly silence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve sold out shows, caused property damage, and made a name for themselves by, quote, \u2018howling with the fans in a fire circle.\u2019\u201d He looked up with the world\u2019s smuggest expression. \u201cHow very\u2026 primal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The curtain lifted. The crowd erupted. Phones flashed. The pack walked onstage like they owned it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel strutted with a wink and took the chair closest to Grayson. Cassie followed with a royal wave. Thane walked with measured calm, nodding once. Mark didn\u2019t even remove his sunglasses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They sat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grayson leaned in. \u201cSo, uh\u2026 Thane. Tell me. What\u2019s it like getting famous for doing the same thing feral dogs do in back alleys?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane raised an eyebrow. \u201cYou\u2019ve clearly never heard a dog hit a D-sharp.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scattered applause. Cassie smiled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grayson tried again. \u201cGabriel, you crowd-surfed on a mattress in the campground. Do you actually consider that&#8230; artistry?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel shrugged. \u201cI consider it gravity. It worked. You\u2019re just mad no one caught <em>you.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Laughter broke out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grayson\u2019s smile thinned. \u201cDo you worry that you\u2019re more of a meme than a band?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maya leaned in. \u201cMemes <em>spread.<\/em> That\u2019s the point.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jonah added, \u201cYou\u2019re a meme and a host. See? It can work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The crowd lost it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thorne looked to Mark, clearly fishing. \u201cYou don\u2019t talk much. What, no comment? Growls only?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark slowly turned his head, ice-cold behind his shades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou invited a pack of werewolves to your studio to boost your ratings. I think <em>you<\/em> know why we\u2019re here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oooooh. The audience collectively leaned back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grayson fumbled with his cards. \u201cRight, well, let\u2019s talk about your single. <em>No Chains Left.<\/em> Cute metaphor. Tell me, who\u2019s writing your lyrics \u2014 someone who failed a poetry class in middle school?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cassie smirked. \u201cNo, just someone who remembers how to feel something.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rico added, \u201cBut hey, if you want to come to a show and get those feelings back, we\u2019ll comp you a ticket. One with an emotional support seat cushion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel leaned into his mic. \u201cHe\u2019ll need it when we start the bridge.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grayson finally waved a hand. \u201cOkay! That\u2019s enough. We\u2019ll be right back with a\u2026 <em>special<\/em> performance by Feral Eclipse. Don\u2019t go anywhere \u2014 or do. Whatever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The moment the lights dimmed for commercial, the band burst out laughing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHoly shit,\u201d Jonah wheezed. \u201cWe <em>destroyed<\/em> him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI kept it classy,\u201d Mark said, sipping his soda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou didn\u2019t <em>blink,<\/em>\u201d Thane said, still a little stunned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabriel leaned back in his chair and kicked his feet up. \u201cGuys\u2026 remind me to get that segment on a T-shirt.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The studio lights were harsh.
