Like a sixth sense calling him home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was practically bouncing in the front passenger seat, tail slapping the dashboard every few seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re almost there,\u201d he said for the fifth time in thirty minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane smiled faintly behind the wheel. \u201cSo I\u2019ve heard.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is it,\u201d Gabriel murmured, staring ahead like he was watching a dream come to life. \u201cTD Garden. I used to sit way up in the nosebleeds and swear I\u2019d stand on that stage one day. Every show I ever saw there? I took notes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cassie leaned forward from the middle row, grinning. \u201cSo you\u2019re saying this is your <em>revenge arc?<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOh, this is way beyond revenge,\u201d Gabriel said, his voice practically glowing. \u201cThis is my victory lap.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They passed Fenway. Then North End. Then a familiar curve on Storrow Drive made Gabriel sit bolt upright.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOkay, okay! First detour. I\u2019m playing tour guide. Left at the lights!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thane raised a brow but turned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the next hour, the van hit every meaningful landmark in Gabriel\u2019s memory:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>His high school, still covered in the same busted banners.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The music shop where he bought his first bass.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The park where he played acoustic sets in college just to get <em>seen.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And finally, the blocky brick building of his childhood home, wedged into a quiet neighborhood of white siding and overgrown sidewalks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>He grew quiet there.
