The audience was dead silent. Not because they were bored. Because they were <em>glued<\/em> to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On-screen, the moment where Gabriel wrapped an arm around Rowan played again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the video faded, the camera swung back to the host of <em>&#8220;The Crawley Hour Live!&#8221;<\/em> \u2014 a smug-faced, salt-and-pepper-haired cynic who\u2019d made headlines just a few weeks ago for sarcastically declaring:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cFeral Eclipse? More like Feral Ego. Give it two months and they\u2019ll be back to busking with a cardboard sign.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Tonight\u2026 he looked like he\u2019d swallowed a lemon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He cleared his throat and stared directly at the lens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOkay\u2026 so\u2026 I may have been a little harsh on the werewolves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Laughter rippled through the studio audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI mean, don\u2019t get me wrong,\u201d he said, hands raised. \u201cI still don\u2019t understand how a band of clawed, barefoot, howling creatures has taken over the rock charts, <em>and<\/em> Billboard\u2019s Top 10, <em>and<\/em> late night streaming. But after watching this\u2026\u201d He gestured toward the screen again. \u201c&#8230;I get it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He leaned forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat wasn\u2019t a PR stunt. That wasn\u2019t a label-pushed viral campaign. That was just\u2026 a pack. A <em>real<\/em> one. Taking care of someone who once believed in them when no one else did. And if that doesn\u2019t make you feel something?\u201d He paused. \u201cThen you\u2019re the beast, not them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The audience broke into applause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He waited for the sound to die down, then grumbled, \u201cDamn it. My producer said not to cry on air again\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More laughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, surprisingly, he leaned back and cracked a small smile. \u201cSo here it is. I was wrong.
