6:47 PM<\/strong> \u2013 Backstage \u2013 Lone Star Pavilion<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sun had dipped just far enough to cast a warm amber glow across the concrete and rigging steel. The crowd outside was roaring<\/em>\u2014an ocean of fans stretching across the amphitheater and spilling past barricades and into the hills beyond. Thousands of voices in perfect chaos. A storm waiting for the lightning strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Backstage was weirdly<\/em> quiet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It always was, right before showtime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Cassie adjusted her in-ears in the mirror, took one last look at herself, and whispered, \u201cYou got this.\u201d Not to hype herself up\u2014but to remind herself she already did<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maya tuned her guitar for the tenth time, just to feel the strings hum under her fingers. Her fingers drummed lightly against the neck in anticipation, almost like a purr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rico leaned against a lighting truss, sipping something neon out of a tour mug and quietly nodding along to the rhythm of the crowd\u2019s chant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jonah sat cross-legged on a flight case, sticks balanced on his knees, bouncing slightly. Not from nerves. Just from the overflow of whatever lived inside him\u2014equal parts chaos and music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Mark was in his zone, headset on, watching cue lights blink across his control tablet. The lighting trusses were armed. The fog machines were probably<\/em> cooperating. He\u2019d done everything he could.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was just waiting for Thane\u2019s signal now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Backstage-left, near the curtain, Thane stood quietly, hands on his hips, eyes closed for just a second. No one said anything. Not yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then Gabriel stepped up beside him, silent for a moment too, then bumped their shoulders together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thane opened his eyes and exhaled. \u201cYou ready?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gabriel gave a grin that was too calm to be fake, too feral to be practiced. \u201cAlways.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShowtime\u2019s big.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gabriel glanced toward the crowd. \u201cThey\u2019re bigger.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thane\u2019s voice dropped a little. \u201cNervous?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAlways.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He paused, turned to face Thane fully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2026But you\u2019re here. So it\u2019s fine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thane\u2019s jaw twitched just slightly\u2014not from tension, but something softer<\/em>. He reached out, curled his clawed hand briefly around Gabriel\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLet\u2019s give \u2019em a reason to believe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gabriel squeezed back. \u201cLet\u2019s make \u2019em howl.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Emily stepped in quietly. \u201cFive minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everyone gathered\u2014humans, wolves, claws, cables, chaos and calm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cassie tossed a mic into the air and caught it one-handed. \u201cLet\u2019s burn this city down.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jonah shouted, \u201cSOUNDTRACK TO THE APOCALYPSE, LET\u2019S GOOOO\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rico slapped the back of his head. \u201cWe agreed no fire metaphors<\/em> near the pyros.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maya smirked. \u201cLet\u2019s make some noise they never<\/em> forget.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark\u2019s voice buzzed through the comm: \u201cCue lights in sixty seconds. Lock it in.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

The lights dimmed outside. The roar of the crowd reached a fever pitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And just before stepping into the blinding brightness of the stage, Thane looked at his pack\u2014every soul who made this band real.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
