The bus rolled out of the Lone Star Pavilion lot under a quiet Texas sky, headlights sweeping the empty roads. Inside, the world was dim, warm, and full of that aftershow energy buzz<\/em>\u2014too tired to be chaotic, too wired to sleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cassie was flopped across the main couch like a fallen gladiator, still in full glam, one boot on the floor and the other missing entirely<\/em>. \u201cWho stole my boot?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jonah, curled up upside-down in one of the bench seats, raised a hand. \u201cI did not steal<\/em> it. I borrowed it for a stage reenactment with Cruncho Two. It was art.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to throw you out the emergency hatch.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maya, cross-legged on the floor with a mug of mint tea, didn\u2019t even look up. \u201cWe\u2019ve all<\/em> tried. He sticks like glitter.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rico plucked at his unplugged guitar, playing something soft and jazzy. \u201cTen bucks says we find glitter in the lighting rack<\/em> next show.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the back, Mark\u2019s voice rumbled, dry as desert air: \u201cI already did.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gabriel entered barepaw from the bunk hall, his fur slightly fluffed from a half-attempted shower, a can of Red Bull in one hand and a box of leftover cookies in the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He passed them out like offerings to a weary tribe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thane sat near the front of the lounge, laptop open beside him, reviewing the system logs from the night\u2019s show\u2014but mostly just listening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were a mess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And he loved every second of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emily, curled in the corner with her hoodie over her knees, suddenly perked up. \u201cOkay, real talk. Top three weirdest fan requests tonight. Go.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cassie raised a finger. \u201cSomeone asked me to scream directly into their voicemail. Said they\u2019d \u2018save it for emergencies.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jonah: \u201cGuy asked if he could get a tattoo of my name on his dog.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gabriel, munching on a cookie: \u201cA kid asked me if my tail was \u2018removable for washing.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rico, not looking up: \u201cDid you say yes?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI told him only on full moons.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark entered last, set a thermos down, and said without breaking stride: \u201cA woman handed me her baby<\/em> and said, \u2018I just need one photo of him being blessed by the light wolf.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dead silence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then the entire bus exploded<\/em> with laughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eventually the noise died down, and the conversation slipped into that soft, sleepy rhythm only found after a good show and a long drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cassie curled into a corner, eyes closed but smiling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jonah finally righted himself and used one of Thane\u2019s coiled cables as a pillow (a fact that will definitely result in violence later).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emily dozed off mid-scroll, phone still clutched in her hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark sat in the hallway with a notebook and a pen, sketching stage layout ideas for the next city under the dim blue glow of a wall sconce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Gabriel?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He wandered over to where Thane sat, plopped down beside him with a sleepy smile, and leaned his head on Thane’s shoulder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBest one yet,\u201d he murmured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thane just nodded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
