The venue was already buzzing when Thane arrived\u2014crew calling cues, gear still rolling in, the lighting rig humming as Mark began calibrations from FOH. Everything seemed<\/em> normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Too normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gabriel had been suspiciously chipper all day. Not just his usual \u201cexcited-to-be-alive\u201d vibe. No\u2026 this was a smug<\/em> kind of chipper. Tail twitching, eyes a little too bright, grinning just a little too much<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thane knew something was coming. He just didn\u2019t know when<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It happened halfway through line check.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark was standing at the lighting board, going through his color presets like clockwork. \u201cRed wash, stage left. Chase pattern, preset three. Spot cue\u2014\u201d he paused. \u201cWait\u2026 why is cue twenty labeled \u2018Eternal Sparkle\u2019<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He hit the button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boom.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

All house lights dimmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, from every direction<\/em>, fog machines kicked on in unison, unleashing a wall of glitter-infused haze that flooded the stage like a disco hurricane. From above, confetti cannons<\/em> fired\u2014each one loaded with shimmering silver gator-shaped glitter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A fanfare blared from the PA. Not the band\u2019s opening track. No, no.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was “Rocket Gator’s Theme Song”<\/em>, which\u2014somehow\u2014Gabriel had ripped from the gator ride and remixed with club bass.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lyrics were even worse:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udfb6 \u201cStrap in, scream out, let the gator ride begin\u2014<\/em>
Space and scales, we\u2019re goin\u2019 full sin!\u201d<\/em> \ud83c\udfb6<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark froze mid-cue, claws flexing on the board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thane, across the stage, dropped his tablet and just stared as a full-on inflatable Rocket Gator<\/strong> slowly rose from behind the amp stack. Seven feet tall. One googly eye askew. Clearly zip-tied to a moving platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the chaos, Gabriel appeared at stage left, arms crossed, grinning like a feral mastermind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToo much?<\/em>\u201d he asked innocently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark turned toward him slowly, face a blank canvas of impending judgment. \u201cYou activated every<\/em> fog unit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gabriel beamed. \u201cI coordinated the DMX patterns myself. Thane wouldn\u2019t let me blow up pyro, so this was plan B.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark blinked, glancing toward the lighting rack now coated in sparkly residue. \u201cThere is glitter in my gobos. You glittered<\/em> my gobos.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thane finally spoke, wheezing. \u201cI am both horrified and so, so proud of you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gabriel sauntered up and gave Thane a soft shoulder bump. \u201cWhat can I say? If I\u2019m going down, I\u2019m dragging you both into fabulous, shiny hell with me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark looked at the inflated gator, deadpan. \u201cI\u2019m going to feed that thing to a real alligator.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo need,\u201d Gabriel said. \u201cIt\u2019s inflatable and<\/em> biodegradable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a long pause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark just muttered, \u201cYou planned<\/em> that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOf course I did.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thane wiped tears from his eyes again, claws resting on his toolbelt. \u201cOkay, okay. Gator war truce. After this, nobody touches fog machines or sticker budgets without a permit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gabriel raised a clawed hand solemnly. \u201cAgreed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
