Post-show, same venue, very late<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The set was a hit. The crowd had gone feral. Gabriel had absolutely shredded under a literal spotlight of sparkling fog, and Feral Eclipse walked offstage to a sea of flashing lights, howling fans, and an entire front row covered in gator-shaped glitter flakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But now?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now came the reckoning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thane stood at the back of the venue, arms crossed, staring down at one of the subwoofers\u2014completely caked<\/em> in glitter. Like someone had rolled it in glue and dragged it through a Hobby Lobby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nearby, two venue staff stood frozen, holding a shop vac like it was a crucifix warding off a demon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark joined him, sipping his third soda of the night, eyes tired and haunted. His voice came out flat as drywall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s glitter inside the dimmers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thane winced. \u201cHow deep?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI sneezed glitter.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark pointed toward the back riser. \u201cAlso, a stray confetti charge got sucked into the intake fan on the hazer. It now produces a fine mist of regret and sparkles.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Down on stage, a crew member kicked something with a clink<\/em>. It was a Rocket Gator sticker. Still attached<\/em> to the inside of a cymbal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The house lighting op\u2014some poor overworked twenty-something with a nose ring and trauma in her eyes\u2014approached Thane like he owed her money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s glitter in the motorized yoke.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thane blinked. \u201cLike\u2026 inside the housing?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She nodded, defeated. \u201cIn the housing.<\/em> It spins. It\u2026 throws glitter now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gabriel appeared from stage left, shirt half untucked, hair floofed from sweat and fog. \u201cOkay, that<\/em> sounds awesome, not gonna lie.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark didn\u2019t even look at him. \u201cYou owe this venue a fruit basket. And maybe a therapy session.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gabriel shrugged. \u201cI could sign some posters?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou\u2019re gonna be signing warranty forms<\/em>,\u201d Thane muttered, hands on his hips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just then, the front of house assistant wheeled up a bin full of recovered debris\u2014mostly confetti, some gator charms, and at least two small children\u2019s shoes<\/em>. No explanation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDon\u2019t ask,\u201d she said. \u201cJust\u2026 don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark sighed and rubbed his temples. \u201cThis is why I don\u2019t do joy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gabriel walked up behind him and gently patted his shoulder. \u201cBut don\u2019t you feel<\/em> a little more fabulous now?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark turned slowly. \u201cI have glitter in places I don\u2019t talk about in public.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thane started laughing so hard he had to lean against a bass amp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOkay,\u201d he gasped, \u201cnext time, we clear any<\/em> glitter-related ideas through the rigging team. And by that, I mean me<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNoted,\u201d Gabriel said, absolutely not noting anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Behind them, someone turned on a fan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A glitter cloud rose like a cursed phoenix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark sighed again, deeply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis venue is going to blacklist us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
